CTRIBAT RECEIVES DONATION FROM NHPD (11/20/2006) NEW HAVEN – Connecticut RIBAT, a movement to end youth violence in New Haven, has received a $5,000 donation from the Department of Police Service. CTRIBAT is run by New Haven Police Officer Shafiq Abdussabur, who is a patrol officer in the Dixwell neighborhood. The organization was formed about three years ago to help fill the void left when the Dixwell Q-House closed. CTRIBAT runs all year, offering programs on nights and weekends during the school year and offering more extensive sessions in the summer. The new funding will help to support the following parent/student mandatory interactive life skills workshops: • Gun prevention • Gangs and interpersonal conflict • Drugs – Sell, use and abuse • How to build my own identity • Building integrity and pride • How to stay healthy • Family planning • Strengthening your weaknesses • Be safe when Mom’s at work • Shoplifting and stealing • Appropriate behavior with females • Importance of sleep and exercise
